A group of firefighters from our department participated in a Learn Thru Burn on Highway 17 South hosted by the Crescent Fire Department. The structure, an old bar last known as Club 2000, was burned down with the assistance of the Nicolet College Fire Training Program to train our new firefighters. It also allowed our seasoned firefighters to brush up on their skills.
Fires are set in a controlled environment and allowed to grow. From inside the building firefighters are able to watch the fire grow and see how it reacts before extinguishing the blaze. They are able to feel the intense heat and see the near zero visibility conditions. They gain knowledge from this training that we are not able to obtain any other way.
Special thanks to the Crescent Fire Department for setting up this Learn Thru Burn and inviting us down to train with them.
